ELITE SHADOW BETS STAFF “GAME OF NIGHT”: YALE @ PRINCETON – FRIDAY NIGHT FEB. 14, 2020 (7PM/PST)
BATTLE FOR FIRST PLACE IN THE IVY LEAGUE AS TIGERS LOOK TO AVENGE 3 LOSSES LAST YEAR TO BULLDOGS!
VEGAS BETTING ODDS: YALE (-4 1/2) @ PRINCETON ~ TOTAL: (137)
YALE: (17-5) – (5-1 IVY) ~ PRINCETON: (10-9) – (5-1 IVY)
Three weeks ago this surely didn’t look like the makings of a game for sole first place in the Ivy League. But out of nowhere Princeton has surged with 7 wins in it’s last 8 games and playing lights out in Ivy League play. The Tigers, whether this game was for first place or not, had this game Circled the day the schedule came out. Those last both regular season games last year to the Bulldogs, losing by 22 at Home, and also losing in the Ivy Tourney. No team playing Friday night will be more amped up and excited for the Opening tip than the Tigers will be. This will be by far their toughest Ivy match up this season.
Yale lost last Friday vs. Harvard, ending their perfect Ivy run and turning this game into a bigger game than most would’ve anticipated. Yale is one of the more talented teams in the entire country, with the only loss in their past 8 games to Harvard by just one point. The loss prior to that was at North Carolina by only 3 points. Only two close losses in their past 16 games. They shoot lights out 38% from 3-land and 53% overall FG %. The wins by Yale have been almost all blowouts, with wins by 18, 15, 31, 11, 14, 14, 50, 9, 3 in OT @ Mass, 13, 9, 13, 20, 22 and 11 points.
Yale has scored 75, 77, 86, 93, 73, and 89 points their past 6 games. They can score and they can score across the board. Now they will face a Princeton team allowing a very high 47% FG percentage.
The good news on the Princeton side is they also have a good shooting team, 54.5% from 2’s, and 35% from 3-land. They can hang but they won’t likely make this a game if their top scorer J. Llewellyn doesn’t get better shooting the deep ball. He is just (2-12) from 3-land his last 3 games. The Tigers must get the ball inside. They are 37-62 the past two games and just 13-42 from 3-land. It’s clear they gotta slow pace and grind clock and stop shooting 3’s unless way down.
Yale comes in off 4 straight Home games and now it will get a little tougher as down the stretch they have only two Home games remaining and 6 Roadies. Princeton has 4 Home and 4 Road left, so slight edge Tigers way. This makes this game gigantic for both sides as it will be very hard for Princeton to make hay against this loaded Yale team.
I’ve said this many times that it is extremely hard to beat the same team twice in same season. How about doing it 5x in two seasons?? Add on against a team hitting really on all cylinders after a very bad start to the season. The Tigers really don’t have the horses Yale has, but they have momentum and Revenge for this huge contest for first place. Yale had a big game last Friday and lost as 7 point favorites. This time around they are 4 1/2 point favorites. This is just too many points to lay in this “situation” and although we can’t side with Princeton how we normally would due to the huge talent gap between these two teams, it’s a game we do expect to be much closer than the many blowouts Yale has under their belts this season.
Yale is (15-5) ATS this season and 12 Overs and 8 Unders. Princeton is (10-8) ATS and 8 Overs and 10 Unders this season.
Enjoy this big game in the Ivy tonight and may all your wagers this upcoming weekend be WINNING ones.
