MLB PLAYOFFS: NATS @ LAD ~ GAME 1 (10-3-19)
NATIONALS TRY TO BEAT THE MIGHTY DODGERS IN NEW SERIES THURSDAY NIGHT!
VEGAS BETTING ODDS: GAME 1 ~ L.A. DODGERS (BUEHLER) (-$1.75) —over WASH NATIONALS (CORBIN)
The Nats pulled off the miracle of comebacks with 3 runs in the eighth inning to beat the Brewers in the NL Wild Card game. Now their prize is taking on the Mighty 106 win LA Dodgers. These two teams met in the 2016 Playoffs, with the Dodgers pulling that Series out in 5 games.
The Dodgers have been nearly unbeatable at Home at Dodger Stadium, going (59-22), with what seems like an insane walk off win every single game they played in front of the Dodger Blue Fans. The Dodgers are a Home Run waiting to happen all thru it’s lineup, so opposing Pitchers can’t allow base runners to really make the damage even worse. The Dodgers won the 2019 season series winning 4 games of the 7 played, splitting the four games played at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers surprisingly bypassed stud Clayton Kershaw to pitch this Game 1, instead going with youngster W. Buehler. He does already have post season experience and in his last post season start, he went 7 innings and allowed just 2 hits and zero earned runs. Buehler faced the Nats twice this season, pitching well and had a nice (2.92) ERA on those 2 starts. In his career vs. the Nats he has a (3.38) ERA. Buehler this season has either been great or really bad in most of his starts, with not even grabbing one out in the fifth inning in 8 of his 30 starts this season. But he also had 2 complete games too, striking out 15 or more in those two brilliant performances.
The Nats will start Patrick Corbin, who had a nice season, (14-7), (3.25) ERA, with one start vs. LA this season where he was magnificent, shutting out the Blue Crew, (6-0). going 7 innings and getting the Win. He has pitched in 21 games in his career vs. LA, 19 as starts, with a very solid (2.97) ERA overall.
The difference in this game and all these games could be the Bullpens for both teams, as both have plainly been “TERRIBLE”. Once nearly perfect Dodgers Closer K. Jansen, this year he has struggled all season. blowing the save 8x in 41 tries and finishing with a (3.71) ERA. The Nats Bullpen had the worst ERA in MLB, with a terrible (5.56) this season, luckily finishing the season a little better after some decent trades late in July. Both teams tied with 29 blown saves each so no matter the score late, your bet is definitely going to be one you likely sweat out.
This first game is a much bigger one for the Nats, who celebrated past midnight just two days ago after their Wild Card win, and now had to travel 3000+ miles and change two time zones and will be in a 1-0 hole with a loss in Game 1 and then have Dodgers Ace Pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, starting Game 2 at home, where this year he has been (10-2) with a solid (2.89) ERA. The Nats do carry in some huge momentum as they have won their last 5 games and scored 36 runs in those 5, and you need hot bats to win, especially in Dodger Stadium, where the Brew Crew seems to feast on all opposing Pitchers, clubbing homers like they are singles.
