Well these are the match ups we all love to watch as we see two of the better teams facing off on Prime Time TV and the ramifications for both teams here tonight are gigantic as a win tonight could end up huge at seasons end if both ended up tied, which is very possible if the Packers hand the Niners their second loss tonight.

If there is one game each year that Packers QB A. Rodgers loves the most, outside a game vs. his own Division, it’s playing either the Raiders or the Niners as he grew up in the Bay area and played his College Football that are at the University of California. He is (4-2) playing the Niners in his career with 14 TD’s and just 2 interceptions. Rodgers enters this game with a strong run the past 4 games with 9 TD passes and No Interceptions.  He is leading a Packers Offense that is averaging a solid 23 points scored or more in 7 of their last 8 games.

Many of the elite QB’s in the NFL will feast vs. opposing Defenses that play Zone Defenses as they can just find the open gaps and grind the ball down the field with little resistance. In this game the Niners will feature a Defense that plays Zone Defense on 56% of it’s plays, the most in the NFL in that department. Rodgers meanwhile, has now thrown 385 passes against a Zone Defense and hasn’t not thrown an Interception in those 385 passes. Of late the Packers have really gotten help from their running game and that has made the Packers Offense nearly impossible to stop. The Packers Offense started slow but you have to take into account they have a new HC and a new Play caller (same guy M. LaFluer) and so it took a few weeks to get everyone adjusted to a totally new scheme and on same page. Right now they are all on the same page and really clicking.

The Niners have just been dominant at the highest of levels with two things: Defense and Rushing the Ball. They have though taken a step back in both departments the last few weeks. The rushing the ball at 181 yards per game the first 7 weeks but since stud TE G. Kittle went out with injury, the Niners are rushing it at a very poor 74 yards rushing per game and just (2.88) yards per rush attempt. The Defense has allowed Arizona to move the ball with relative ease twice the past few weeks and Seattle really moved it with ease. All since stud LB and Play maker Kwon Alexander went out. The good news on Niners front is QBJimmy Garoppolo had his best game ever last week with 424 passing yards and 4 TD passes. Also he has shown great improvement this year following a key mistake, aka an Interception. He is 32-35-378 and 2 TD’s and ZERO interceptions on drives following those Interceptions.

Garoppolo is very solid vs. Man to Man Coverage with a Top 5 ranking in both completions % and Total QBR and in this game he is facing the Packers Defense that plays Man to Man coverage (56%) of the time.

It’s extremely rare to be this deep into an NFL season with Packers QB Rodgers having 9 other teams yards passing per game higher than his. But of late the great running of stud Pack RB Aaron Jones is the cause, not due to a drop off by Rodgers. I will say one shocker is one of the better wide out options on the Packers is WR Valdes-Scantling and in his last 3 weeks he has just one catch. Hard to see him being held that low this week.

One note of two studs facing off: Rodgers vs. Niners longtime stud QB Richard Sherman. Rodgers stays completely away from Sherman as he’s thrown at his side only 14x in 6 career games vs. him and he’s only completed 7 passes for 85 yards and one interception.

This is as good a Playoff type match up we will see this month as both teams can truly gauge where they really stand at this point with how they fare tonight. Again Rodgers loves to go home area and play so you know he will be amped up. Great news for the Niners is Kittle will be back on field and provide a huge catching boost but he’s also a great blocker, so you can expect better tonight from the Niners rush attack than the very poor 74 rypg they’ve had since Kittle went out.

Should be as as exciting a game as we might see all this week in the NFL.

Enjoy the game and may all your wagers be Winning ones.
