Well this game is one of the more fun rivalries the past years as watching Saints QB Brees face off against Falcons QB Ryan is as exciting as it gets. Shockingly when these two teams met a few weeks ago, the Falcons stunned the Saints 26-9. They played easily their best Defensive game all season, including sacking Brees 6x. The Falcons season prior was as much of a disaster as it could’ve even been. This is a Falcons team on the decline, not just this season, but ever since the Super Bowl this Falcons team is only (21-24). The Saints had won the prior 3 meetings before that humiliating loss a few weeks ago. That was the only Saints loss in a 9 week span, showing you that in the NFL, you simply can’t get pumped up week after week as all teams will just have “LETDOWN” games.
For the Saints, this isn’t just a week to get a Revenge win, but also a win here Turkey Night means they clinch the NFC South Title for the third straight season.
This year the Falcons have simply not played well at Home in their Dome, losing 3 straight games after a win in their first Home game. The 3 Home losses were by 14, 27 and 7 points. The Saints on the Road have been really good, winning their last 4 Roadies after losing in their first Road game of 2019. The 4 wins were by 6, 7, 11 and 17 points.
The Saints do almost everything well, but they kill themselves with way too many Penalties. They avg. 7.8 penalties per game and against the Falcons in the first meeting, and last week vs. the Panthers, they committed a dozen penalties. The weakness now of the Saints is the Offensive Line, which this week starts two new faces in LG Easton and LT Omameh. If the Saints OL can protect Brees, he can have a big day as the Falcons Defense allows 266 passing yards per game and 22 TD passes (4th worst). The Falcons also allow 68% passing to opposing QB’s and the Defense only has 18 sacks all year (3rd worst). Last week the Falcons Defense was shredded vs. Bucs QB Winston for 313 passing yards and an additional 133 rushing yards. In the first meeting, the Falcons did win big, but they could not stop the best WR in the game right now, the Saints WR Thomas. He had his best game of the season against the Falcons Defense, with 13 catches for 152 yards. He comes into this game with 5 straight 100 yard receiving games.
The Saints Defense has not allowed a 100 yard rusher in 37 straight games, meaning the Falcons will likely need a 300+ passing game from QB Ryan to pull off the improbable sweep of the Saints in 2019.
Last year on Turkey Night, the Saints beat the Falcons 31-17 in New Orleans. Last years contest between these two in the Falcons Dome, the final score was 43-37 with the Saints winning the game in Overtime.
Saints HC Sean Payton is 18-9 in his career vs. the Falcons, meanwhile the Falcons HC Quinn is just 4-5.
KEY INJURY WATCH:
The Falcons stud WR Julio Jones hasn’t practiced this short week as he is nursing a sore shoulder. Falcons Tight End Hooper is Out and that is a tough loss to the Falcons Offense. For the Saints it’s looking good that stud CG Lattimore returns since missing past few games.
These games rarely flop between these two high flying Offenses and you can be sure Saints QB Brees is looking to reconcile his poor game in the earlier meeting loss to the Falcons. The Falcons have nothing to lose and would love to derail the Saints winning a third straight NFC South Title on their field. One note to watch is the Saints do have a monster game on deck next week vs. the Niners. I wouldn’t expect a look ahead though as they will have plenty of extra time to prepare for that game.
Enjoy this final Turkey Day games in the NFL and have a Happy long Holiday weekend. May all your wagers be Winning ones all weekend.
