Well we got us a doozy Sunday night as when these two teams match up there are always tons of fireworks. Last year the Rams won both meetings, in close fashion both games, winning 36-31 in LA and wining 33-31 in Seattle. The Seahawks got some nice Revenge winning this season’s first meeting in Week 5, 30-29. As you can see, these two teams are very close in talent and the games are as close as possible. In fact 7 of the past 9 meetings have been decided by one score or less. The Seahawks have been on a rare run as they are a perfect (6-0) on the Road this season. This is a sensational feat as it’s nearly impossible, even for the best teams to run the table on the Road. Now the Seahawks will go for the season sweep, needing a win badly to stay tied with the Niners in first place at (11-2). The Rams are out of mulligans and likely need to run the table to earn a possible Playoff berth. Seattle has gone (8-1) this season in games decided by a point or less.
In the Past 4 meetings all 4 games went “OVER” the posted Total. The past 3 meetings have seen both QB’s really shine, as Seattle QB R. Wilson has at least 3 TD’s and No Interceptions and Ra,s QB J. Goff has passed for 300+ yards in the past 3 meetings. Goff passed for 395 yards in the first meeting loss, and Wilson passed for 268 yards and 4 TD’s. Both were in a solid groove and neither Defense had an answer to slow these 2 young QB’s down. There was only one QB sacked in the first meeting (Wilson 1x). Wilson had his best QBR of season in that Week 5 win.
Right now the Seahawks are winning with a rare Run more and Pass less mentality. They run the ball 3rd most in the NFL.In the first meeting they ran ball 43x for 167 yards. Strangely the longest rush was only 14 yards, so they really grinded the Rams Defense (that only allows 3.7 yards per carry) the entire day. The Seahawks have been beasts rushing the ball the past 2 weeks, with 155 rushing yards 2 weeks ago vs. Philly and then 218 rushing yards last week vs. the Vikings.
The Rams were too pass happy in the first game, throwing it 49x and rushing it only 18x. I don’t foresee that way off play calling again as RB T. Gurley has looked good of late and has started carrying ball much more past few weeks. The Rams really unleashed WR Robert Woods the past two weeks with 27 targets. Also TE T. Higbee had a break out game last week vs. Cards with 7 catches and 107 total yards. He will be facing the Seahawks Defense that is 3rd worst when covering Tight Ends this season. The Rams need to break out speedy WR B. Cooks though to really help open up the rushing attack. He’s capable of making a huge play at any time and he may here tonight as the Seahwaks Defense is 4th worst allowing pass yards in the NFL. The Seahawks are also very banged up at the Pass Rusher spots for tonight’s game so that could give Rams Goff that extra split second to hit Cooks deep if they can’t pressure him. Remember Seattle couldn’t sack Goff once in the first meeting with all healthy Pass Rushers.
Seattle Defense has given up big yards, but wow do they make the big Turnover when they need one. The past 3 weeks that have forced an incredible 11 turnovers.
Both teams have superstar Punters as the Rams Hekker averages 47.4 yards per Punt and Seattle Punter M. Dickson has hit 8 of his last 9 Punts inside the 20. Both can really change field possession in a big way.
The Rams biggest problem this season has been slow starts, averaging only 2.9 points in the first quarters this season. Seattle’s lowest scoring quarter is the first as well, with only 54 points. Both teams though do get super hot in the second quarter, with the Seahawks putting up 103 points in the second quarter this season. The Rams amp up their slow first quarters with 97 second quarter points.
The last time the Rams played in this Prime Time Sunday Night game, they got demolished 45-6 to the Ravens. Coming off their best overall game, especially on Offense, there is no way they get blown out at Home again. This game should be very exciting and one that like the last 3, stays very close.
Seattle HC Pete Carroll goes for his 100th regular season win tonight at the LA Coliseum, the place he coached in College at USC.
Enjoy this super match up as both teams try to grab very much needed wins tonight.
